About Us
St. Christopher’s School prides itself in maintaining traditional values which celebrates each child as an individual. We have a ‘family’ atmosphere and look forward to welcoming you and your children into our school community.
We pride ourselves in welcoming children to a happy, friendly, safe and secure environment where they have the opportunity to reach their individual potential. We encourage our children to use their growing knowledge to develop into confident independent individuals who have a thirst for learning.
St Christopher’s has been established for over sixty years and continues to commit itself to offering small class sizes and a high teacher to pupil ratio. This enables us to build strong partnerships with families who join St Christopher’s, indeed we view ourselves as an extension of all the families who join us. All children are nurtured in a welcoming and stimulating environment, they are encouraged to develop a love for learning through investigation and exploration which will carry with them onto future schools.
The school was founded in 1964 by Mrs Skinner and started life as a nursery facility which very quickly grew into an educational facility with the added feature of after school and holiday care. In 1971 the school moved to it’s town premises in Stopford Road where it was situated for 35 years. 2006 marked the next milestone in the school’s history when the school moved premises to the current location in St Clement which provides more opportunities for learning in a larger environment. Mrs Le Brocq whom is Mrs Skinner’s daughter is CEO of St Christopher’s Preparatory School.
As we are a completely independent school we have the advantage of being able to base our teaching on the Jersey Curriculum linked in with the National Curriculum. In addition, the children have dedicated weekly French, PE, drama lessons which are built into our curriculum.
The size of our school means that unlike many other schools, we offer the opportunity to participate in an on-island activities week from Year 2 upwards. As the children progress into Upper Key stage 2(Year 5 upwards), they can attend off-island activities in France and the UK every other year
Please email or telephone to arrange an appointment to view the school, we look forward to hearing from you and showing you what our school has to offer.
St. Christopher’s warmly welcomes students through its doors from 8:00 am, with lessons commencing promptly at 8:45 am. While all classes adhere to a structured weekly timetable, we frequently arrange enriching educational excursions to complement specific topics covered in class.
Each child from Foundation Stage to Year 6, every child at St. Christopher’s enjoys a weekly drama lesson, immersing themselves in various aspects of dramatic arts such as poetry, diction, acting, and improvisation, as well as honing their talents in singing, music, and dance. These sessions are thoughtfully designed to stimulate creativity and imagination, encouraging children to delve into different roles, emotions, and scenarios within a supportive and enjoyable environment, fostering their self-assurance.
In Key Stage 2, our students are actively encouraged to explore their creative ideas independently and collaboratively. They participate in two stage shows each school year, providing them with an exceptional platform to showcase their performance skills and create lasting memories. It is well-recognized that children who engage in drama lessons tend to exhibit enhanced confidence when speaking publicly, underscoring the value we place on this aspect of our curriculum at St. Christopher’s.
Under the guidance of our dedicated PE teacher, our comprehensive PE curriculum spans a wide array of sports tailored to suit each age group. From developing fine motor skills in our Foundation classes to offering the opportunity to participate in island-wide events such as the Schools Athletics Championships, Cross Country, and Swimarathon, we strive to encourage pupils to explore and develop their athletic abilities.
Two weekly PE lessons alternate between specific sporting skills and fitness-focused activities, our pupils receive a well-rounded physical education. The eagerly anticipated annual Sports Day is a highlight for both children and parents, fostering friendly inter-house competition and excitement as the houses competes for the coveted house sports trophy.
Moreover, our popular after-school football club runs throughout the year, allowing the St. Christopher’s team to compete against other football clubs and partake in various competitions, further enhancing their sporting prowess.
Core Qualities
Our educational philosophy emphasises the importance of holistic development, recognising that academic excellence is just one aspect of a pupil’s growth. Caring, Passionate Educators
Caring and passionate educators are those who are genuinely invested in their students’ well-being and academic success. They not only impart knowledge but also provide emotional support and encouragement, creating a positive and supportive learning atmosphere.
Small Classes
Small class sizes allow for more individualized attention and personalized instruction. Students can receive focused guidance from their educators, fostering a deeper understanding of the material and a stronger connection between students and teachers.
Education in a Family Environment
The notion of a family environment in education suggests a warm and nurturing community where students feel a sense of belonging, safety, and acceptance. It promotes a culture of inclusivity, respect, and understanding, fostering strong relationships among students, educators, and parents.
Building Key Life Skills
In addition to academic knowledge, this approach emphasizes the development of essential life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. These skills are crucial for students to succeed in various aspects of their lives beyond the classroom.
